Day 2- Community outreach

Today we spent the morning going through the community asking people questions for our survey.  One of the most memorable moments was meeting a mother who was 98 years old and her daughter who was 56.  The mother was able to move better than many people in thir 50s or 60s in America.  When we asked for advice, they told us that staying active and eating more natural foods is important.  The mother had even given birth to 12 children and said she went right back to working around the house afterwards.

Seeing the community was eye opening becuase some of the buildings were run down and there was trash in different areas.  Many houses had at lleast one dog, and there were also several stray dog walking around.  Even with that,  I really enjoyed being to connect with the community and learn new things about their lives.

One thing I really liked was how the houses were painted bright, different colors, which made the area feel lively.  Later in the day, we helped prepare bags for the dental clinic that included toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss.  We also organized the medications and separated them so they would be ready for the three days of the clinic.

I needed to step up when we were going around the community asking questions.   Sometimes it can fee a little uncomfortable talking to people you don't know especially in a different place, but I pushed myself to participate and ask questions.  I also stepped up when helping get the supplies ready becaus there was a llot that needed to be organized for the clinic.

I tried to listen carefully to the instructions and feedback from the leaders and my teammates.  When someone suggested a better way to do something, I took the advice and tried to improve.  I know the feedback is important because it helps us work better as a team and learn from each other.

Communication mattered the most when we were working together to complete the survey and when we were organzing the supplies for the dental clinic.  Everyone had to communicate clearly so we knew what questios to ask and how to prepare the materials correctly.  Good comminication helped everything run more smoothly.
